About Sheila Peele-Miller
I have been a lover of creativity since elementary school. As a young child, I began writing poetry, short stories, personal essays and loved to draw. I attended Pitt Community College and East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, majoring in Commercial Art and Graphic Design, although I continued to write poetry for my personal pleasure. After college and marriage, I put my aspirations on hold until I read “Waiting to Exhale.” The book rekindled the love I had for self-expression and I have been working on numerous projects since.
I received a certificate for successfully completing a home-study Fiction Writing Course from the National Radio Institute out of Washington, DC and have completed my first novel, ‘Painted Picture’, with hopes of it being released in August of 2004. I am a member of the R.A.W. (Reading and Writing) Sistaz online writing group, as well as RAW4All, Fiction Folks, Real Sista Writers (RSW), Black Writers United (BWU), Writers RX, A Club For Us, Nommo Gathering, and SisterFriend Writers.
I reside in Chicago with my husband and our four sons and am a grandmother and mother-in-law. Other than my family, my other loves are reading (mostly novels) and listening to music (mainly R&B). I have written my second novel, ‘Daylight Coming’, and am looking forward to it being released soon as well. So stay tuned and don’t forget to check out the excerpt from Painted Picture. Thanx and much love…
